Four charged with child cruelty, child deprivation

Four Rome residents were arrested Thursday at their Hill Drive residence on seven counts of 2nd-degree cruelty to children and seven counts of contributing to the deprivation of a child.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

36-year-old Tiffany Hope Fortenberry, 42-year-old Joseph Benjamin South III, 38-year-old Eric Robert Hardy, and 59-year-old Kathy Louise Rymer allowed children to live in the home with an extreme amount of fifth.

The home was found to be covered in animal waste as well as soiled clothing, and trash.

The smell of ammonia in the home was so strong that some officers became ill, according to the report.

Morrow man faces theft by deception charges

A 41-year-old man from Morrow was booked into the Floyd County Jail Thursday on charges of theft by deception.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jermaine Allen Louis drove to a business on Shorter Avenue to pick up twelve tires and then transport them to a location in Decatur. The tire order was canceled because the credit card was used fraudulently by an unknown person.

On Jan 18, Louis obtained tires valued at over $6,000 from the same business in the same manner.

Police respond to shooting call

Rome Police responded to a shooting incident on Callahan Street on Wednesday.

According to a Rome Police Department report:

A man sustained a grazing gunshot wound behind his right ear and was transported to Atrium Health Floyd for treatment.

The man told police that he and a friend were just chilling and the two started to wrestle.

The man said the next thing he heard was a gunshot..

A red and white toboggan with a black stripe was found near the scene but no shell casings were found.

Report: Man would not let woman leave motel room

A Rome man is facing a felony false imprisonment charge and a misdemeanor count of obstruction of officers following his arrest Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Delano Deshawn Jenkins, 28, would not the victim leave the room at a Martha Berry Boulevard motel.

He then refused a lawful order from a law enforcement officer.
