September 22nd, 2022 – 11:05 AM

Press Release –

Beginning Monday evening, September 26, 2022, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will have nightly closures for road paving at the intersection of of S.R. 293 and S.R. 53, commonly known in Rome as “Five Points”.

Construction of this project is limited to off-peak hours with most of the work scheduled as “night work”. There will be nightly lane closures while work is going on, but all lanes will be restored and open for traffic during peak traffic hours.

The project is a 120-day project with a scheduled completion date of January 11, 2023. GDOT will be initiating a White Topping Project at the intersection. White-topping is a process where the normal black-top roads or the bitumen asphalted roads are cleared and the roads are given a layer of concrete on top. The concrete used is considered more long-lasting to help prevent the formation of potholes.
