Calhoun woman pronounced dead after falling from Cliff in Maine

According to a report by the Gordon Gazette, A Calhoun woman was pronounced dead after she fell off of a cliff in Maine.

According to a Scarborough, Maine Police Department media release, just before 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 19, Scarborough Communications Center was contacted about a woman who fell approximately 30 feet off a cliff walk edge in Scarborough after a fence that she was leaning against broke.

The woman was identified as Romona Gowens, age 54, of Calhoun, Ga. The release stated that Gowens was unable to call 911, but a nearby fisherman, as well as Gowen’s sister, contacted the Scarborough Communications Center. Scarborough Fire/EMS, along with Portland Fire Heavy Rescue 1 and the Scarborough Police Department responded to the scene.

Gowens was found with critical injuries, and after a lengthy extrication process was transported to Maine Medical Center. Lt. Timothy Barker with the Scarborough Police Department confirmed to the Gazette this evening that Gowens has succumbed to her injuries.

The release says that the incident remains under investigation, but no suspicious circumstances are noted
