On Wednesday, the Joint Services Committee gave their blessing to a proposal for the distribution of local sales taxes worked out by City Manager Sammy Rich, Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord, and Cave Spring Mayor Rob Ware.

The City of Rome’s percentage will be changing from 41.7% to 45.2%, Floyd County will be changing from 56.5% to 53%, and Cave Spring will stay the same at 1.8%.

The LOST negotiations also include the exchange of some properties between the City of Rome and Floyd County. The City of Rome will now take over possession of The Forum, 3rd Avenue Parking Deck, Town Green, Rotary Plaza, Chief John Ross Pedestrian Bridge, and 5th Avenue Bridge. Floyd County will now take over possession of the Law Enforcement Center, 6th Avenue Deck, Marine Armory, and Parks and Recreation Headquarters.

There is no set implementation date for these changes yet as the proposal must now go to the Cave Spring City Council, Rome City Commission, and Floyd County Commission for approval.
