The Rome City Commission has approved an amendment to the city charter that will raise the salary of city commissioners and members of the Rome City School Board.

The vote was not unanimous.

Commissioners Jim Bojo, Jamie Doss, Craig McDaniel, and Randy Quick voted “no,”

Commissioners Bonny Askew, Elaina Beeman, Mark Cochran, and Bill Collins voted “yes.”

Mayor Sundai Stevenson voted in favor to break the tie.

The pay for commissioners will go from $8,400 to $12,000 a year with the mayor’s salary remaining at 110% of the commissioner’s salary.

The increase will not go into effect until January of 2024, which is after the next city commission election.
