Georgia DOT awards contracts for Chattooga, Polk projects

A bridge construction project in Chattooga County and a repaving project in Polk County are among the $199 million in construction contracts awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation in June.

The DOT awarded a contract of nearly $5 million to C.W. Matthews for the construction of a bridge and approaches on Highway 48 over Raccoon Creek near Summerville.

The project has a completion date of April 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, Bartow Paving was the low bidder at just over $933,000 for the resurfacing of 1.5 miles of West Elm Street and Piedmont Avenue, beginning west of Marbel Street in Rockmart.

That estimated completion date is May 31, 2023.

Nearly $192,000 was also awarded for pavement marking upgrades throughout Polk County,
