If you have driven on Shorter Avenue lately, you may have noticed a big change.

The American Legion building next to the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Office has been demolished.

The American Legion sold the building earlier this year.

The demolition will pave the way for the construction of a quick-service drive-thru coffee shop, and an automotive oil change facility.

The building was first constructed in 1939 and was rebuilt following a fire in the 1970s.
