If you have been thinking about adopting a cat or dog, now if the perfect time.

Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services is holding an adoption event Friday and Saturday at their facility on North Avenue.

The hours are Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 until 5.

PAWS Director Jeff Mitchell told the county public safety committee on Thursday, that the shelter is taking in an average of 300 animals a month.

“We have had 300-plus animals coming into the shelter ever since March,” he said.  “This month it looks like it is going to be 300 to 315.  We currently have about 370 animals in the shelter.  During this time of the year, it’s hard for us to find rescues.  We do find them, but a lot of our partners are in the northeast, and this is also their breeding season.

Adoption fees at PAWS are $40 for dogs and $35 for cats.

That includes spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, de-worming, flea treatment, and a microchip.
