Cooling stations opened in Gordon County

NEWS RELEASE

With extreme heat taking hold of a major portion of the United States this week, Gordon County is not exempt from these high temperatures. Currently, Gordon County is under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. today and could remain under that for certain hours over the next several days.

With that in mind, Gordon County Emergency Management has reached out to partner with our local communities and their leaders to offer cooling stations to those who may need somewhere to go to get out of the heat and cool down. These locations are listed below with days and hours of operation:

Gordon County Parks and Recreation Department (Sonoraville)

7494 Fairmount Highway SE

Calhoun

Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Fairmount City Hall

2661 Highway 411 SE
Fairmount

Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Plainville City Hall and Library

110 Earl Street SW

Plainville

Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Resaca Town Hall and Gym

330 Walker Street NW

Resaca

Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Also, the Gordon County Parks and Recreation Splash Pad is open to the public seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and is free of charge. Swimmers can also take advantage of the community pool at the Calhoun Recreation Department located at 601 South River Street, Calhoun which is open Monday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Cost for the pool is $3.00 for ages 13 and over and $2.00 for those younger than 13 who must also be accompanied by an adult.

These locations will supply air conditioning along with somewhere to sit down, relax and cool down. Food or drinks will not be provided and listed times must be adhered to.
