Man accused of fighting with and injuring officers

A local man has been charged in connection with an incident on Tuesday of last week on Edward Street in Rome that left a couple of police officers injured.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 26-year-old Michael Reese Ellis resisted arrest and bit an officer’s ear, causing a substantial injury.

He also caused injury to other officers by kicking, scratching, spitting, and rubbing OC spray in their faces.

Ellis also destroyed an officer’s body cam and attempted to head-butt an officer while on the way to the patrol car.

All of this occurred in front of young children.

Ellis is charged with aggravated battery on a police officer, felony obstruction, obstruction resulting in an injury to an officer, interference with government property, simple assault, simple battery on a law enforcement officer, and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
