From Floyd County Police:

On April 14, 2022, Floyd County Police investigators received information regarding a possible missing person, 82-year-old Doris Cumming. The family believed she had moved out of state but had not communicated with her family since the supposed move.   

During the investigation, it was discovered that Mrs. Cumming’s grandson, Robert Tincher III, had been living with her prior to her disappearance and should have moved with her at the end of 2021.  

Contact was made with Tincher and it was learned that at some point around December of 2021 Mrs. Cumming was injured at their residence and Tincher did not seek medical care for his grandmother.

Investigators have reason to believe that, while injured but still alive, Mrs. Cumming was placed inside large plastic bags and then placed in a freezer and this was done for the purpose of concealing Mrs. Cumming’s death. 

At this point of the investigation, it is also believed that Mrs. Cumming received several other injuries prior to her death. Mrs. Cummings was left in the freezer until her death and left at that location until around March of 2022; this is when she was transported to another location within Floyd County. 

Tincher has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and concealing the death of another.

A Rome man has been charged with the death of his grandmother after locking his injured grandmother in a freezer, while she was still alive.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Robert Keith Tincher III placed the woman in plastic bags after she had fallen and dragged her through the residence on Hennon Drive.

Tincher told police that he heard and saw numerous bones break.

He then placed the victim in the chest freezer in the residence and locked it.

He acknowledged to law enforcement that the woman’s back broke while he was doing so.

This was in November of 2021.

Tincher continued to conceal the body and feared it would be discovered.

Four months later, he had the freezer moved from the residence to another location in Floyd County.

Tincher told police that there was no altercation with the victim, nor were there any life-saving measures.

Tincher was arrested Thursday after the body was discovered by police.

He is charged with malice murder, felony murder, concealing the death of another, and aggravated battery.
