Inmate death in Cherokee County, Alabama

An inmate at the Cherokee County, Alabama Detention Center was pronounced dead on Saturday.

Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford said that the inmate was rushed from the detention center to Floyd/Cherokee Medical Center where he died.

No additional details about the incident are being released.

The death appears to be the result of a suicide.

Summerford said that as part of a regional agreement, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office with the investigation.
