Cartersville High graduate wins silver at the Paralympics

A Kingston resident has won a silver medal at the Paralympics in Beijing.

Garrett Geros won his first Paralympic medal in the snowboard cross event on Monday.

Geros won his quarterfinal heat, and then took second in the semifinal before another second-place finish in the final.

The 22-year old Geros is a graduate of Cartersville High School.

At age 16, he was involved in a life-threatening car accident which resulted in serious injuries to both his legs, one of which was amputated to save his life.

The Snowboard competition resumes on March 11 with the banked slalom finals.
