Storms bring power outages Wednesday

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the area Wednesday night.

There were several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued for most of Northwest Georgia.

There were some Tornado Warnings in neighboring Alabama counties.

At one point, Georgia Power reported 47 power outages in the region, affecting 3,180 customers.

41 of those outages were in Rome, affecting 3,130 customers.

The largest outage impacted 1,659 customers and is along the bypass from Turner Chapel Road up to Kingston Highway, Calhoun Road, and Highway 53. The impacted area also included Wayside Road and Bells Ferry Road.

Some other areas impacted include Mt. Alto Road, Wilkerson Road, Rosewood Road, Sherwood Road, and Westmore Road, all off Shorter Avenue.

Another outage was in South Rome in the area of Porter Street, Nixon Avenue, Hardy Avenue, and Wilson Avenue.

Around 121 customers lost power in the area East 2nd Avenue, East 2nd Street, East 4th Avenue, and Glen Milner Boulevard.

Another 122 were without power in the area of Old Dalton Road.

As of 3 a.m., there were 33 outages affecting 1,054 customers.

By 5:30 that had been reduced to 18 outages, affecting 402 customers.
