NEWS RELEASE

Kelli Wilson with International Paper dropped by the Rome-Floyd ECO Center last week to present a grant check from the International Paper Foundation.

The ECO Center applied for and received funds from them in order to offer an educational program, free of charge, to every 3rd grade class in the Rome City and Floyd County school systems for Spring 2022.

Different schools can face different challenges when planning field trips, and the cost is often one of those.

By the International Paper Foundation awarding the grant to cover the ECO Center’s program fees, the ECO Center now has a unique chance to interact with and educate students across an entire grade level on the importance of our natural resources.

The 3rd-grade science standards align well with our curriculum at the ECO Center, making this program a complement to what students learn in the classroom.

“We believe in investing in people in the communities where our employees live and work through community engagement and these foundation grants,” said Kevin Walls, Mill Manager, Rome. “We are proud to support this important effort to expand environmental education to more students in our community schools.”

The staff at the ECO Center is incredibly thankful for a community relationship with Jenna Guzman from our local International Paper and the International Paper Foundation for sharing in our passion and vision.
