Man arrested following police pursuit in Polk County

A man was arrested Friday following a pursuit in Polk County.

According to Polk County Police, officers stopped a Chevy S-10 for traffic violations in the area of Berry Road and Piedmont Highway.

As the officers were speaking to the driver, he put the vehicle in drive and sped off, almost striking one of the officers.

The suspect turned onto Prior Station Road, and a helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources’ Aviation Unit joined the pursuit.

The chase ended at Lefevers Road and Prior Station Road.

42-year old Michael Ganues was taken into custody.

He is facing multiple charges.

It was also discovered the Chevy S-10 had been stolen.

Ganues is charged with possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, theft by taking, aggravated assault, obstruction of law enforcement, and numerous traffic charges.
