Legislation introduced to change makeup of Floyd elections board

November 9, 2021–12:08 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

State Representatives Mitchell Scoggins, Eddie Lumsden, and Katie Dempsey have dropped two bills to abolish and then reconstitute the Floyd Board of Elections.

Chuck Hufstetler is ready to carry the bills in the Senate.

Last month, the board of elections recommended that the board be changed from three members to five.

The idea was endorsed by the Floyd County Commission but it must be approved by the legislature.

To establish a 5 member board as requested, the 1986 law must be abolished with one bill.

Then there must be a second bill to establish the five-member board.
