STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission voted Monday to authorize City Manager Sammy Rich to execute documents related to a partial settlement of litigation with opioid manufacturers.

In 2018, the City of Rome joined a suit seeking damages from the distribution of opioids.

City Attorney Andy Davis said this settlement relates to the agreement with the State of Georgia, McKesson Corporation, AmerisourceBergen Corporation, Cardinal Health, and then Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

“This is only a portion of the settlement,” he added.  There are also two bankruptcies.  One is the Perdue bankruptcy which the City of Rome and other cities and counties have claims in.  The other in Mallinckrodt, which the city and other counties have claims in, as well.”

It is not known at this time how much money the City of Rome will receive from the settlement.
