The Rome City Commission will conduct a first reading for a rezoning application for a proposed residential and commercial development when they meet Monday night.
The planning commission is recommending approval of the application for nine parcels located in the triangle at the intersection of Martha Berry and N 5th Avenue.
The Point, as the development is called, would include 210 residential units and an undetermined amount of commercial space.
Since this is just a first reading, there will be no public hearing.
That will come prior to a final vote on the rezoning during the commission’s next meeting later this month.

A discussion regarding incentives for new housing is on the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
The Housing Assistance Program, a pilot program, with the primary purpose of increasing new residential construction starts and opportunities within the City of Rome to provide a critical shortage of workforce housing.
The city has committed up to $1 million dollars in funding from the American Rescue Plan.
All incentivized housing units would have a purchase price below $250,000 or monthly rent $1,200 or lower.
Incentives include waiving water and sewer tap fees.

Also on the agenda for the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall, is the proposed curfew ordinance for minors, which would be lowered to 10 p.m. from the current 11 p.m.
The commission tabled the ordinance during their last two meetings.
During the pre-meeting caucus at 5 p.m., the commission will hear a presentation from Dr. Courtney Cash regarding a community concerns survey and get an update on the land bank authority from Community Development Director Bekki Fox.
