Woman in stolen animal control truck leads police on chase

A Leesburg, Alabama woman was recently arrested after leading authorities on a chase while driving a stolen animal control truck.

According to Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a deputy responded to a location on County Road 82 in reference to a woman acting suspiciously.

The deputy called for an ambulance to check on the woman, identified as Mary E. Butts, and also called for Cherokee County Animal Control to check on the woman’s dogs.

At some point, the woman jumped out of the back of the ambulance and sped away in the animal control truck nearly striking the deputy and the animal control officer.

The pursuit went onto Highway 273 where Leesburg Police attempted to stop the truck, which then struck the patrol vehicle.

Butts was taken into custody after Centre Police officers deployed spike strips to disable the truck.
