COVID-19 in school update

September 19, 2021–2:40 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

Have we seen a plateau in the number of COVID-19 cases in the schools?

Floyd County Schools had 51 new cases last week, down from 78 the week before.

No county schools are under a mask mandate this week.

Rome City Schools reported 24 cases from September 10 to September 16, down from 38 the week before.

Rome City Schools will still be on phase two of the system’s COVID-19 plan at least until fall break.

Students in the Rome City Schools have the day off Monday.

Monday is one of two teacher in-service days added to the calendar during last week’s city school board meeting.

The other will be September 27.

The off days for students will allow for planning opportunities for educators and give students a chance to recover from time lost in the classroom due to the system’s COVID-19 protocol.

Students will be able to catch up on missed assignments and take advantage of Virtual Online Tutoring.
