STAFF REPORTS

Crews continue to work on the Atlanta Gas Light pipeline extension in Rome.

The project is slated for completion in late fall, according to Jodie Hart, manager of governmental affairs with Atlanta Gas Light.

“We are continuing some of that installation on Shorter Avenue and we should be wrapping that up in the next couple of weeks,” she said.  “We are currently doing some restoration work on Charlton Street, North Division, and John Davenport.  Safety is our highest priority so we are making sure that we get the project worksites cleaned up and get things back to normal.”

The extension will serve an expansion at International Paper in Coosa and many new customers.

“It’s going to help a lot in the area,” Hart added.  So, on the coldest days of the year, no one is going to go without heat and they will be able to cook on their gas stoves.  We expect this to last quite a long time in the area.”

The project includes approximately 7.8 miles of 12-inch steel pipeline that will be tied to AGL’s existing system on both the east and west sides of town.
