GSP investigating fatal crash on GA 20 in Bartow

On August 30, 2021, at 10:12 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 3 of Cartersville was requested to investigate a two-vehicle crash on GA 20 in Bartow County.

A tractor-trailer was traveling west on GA 20 near mile marker 5.

A 2014 Nissan 370Z was traveling east on GA 20 near mile marker 5.

The tractor-trailer crossed the grass median of GA 20, entering into the east lanes, and struck the front of the Nissan 370Z.

After impact, the Nissan came to an uncontrolled rest and caught on fire.

The tractor-trailer continued west in the east lanes before exiting the roadway off the south side of the roadway.

The tractor-trailer then overturned onto its left side, traveled down the embankment, striking several trees as it came to an uncontrolled rest.

The tractor-trailer also caught on fire. The driver of the Nissan 370Z, Mr. Jeremy Matthew Pereira, 18 years old of West Newbury, MA suffered fatal injuries.

The passenger of the Nissan 370Z suffered severe burns to his body and was transported to Floyd Medical.

The tractor-trailer driver suffered lacerations to his face and was also transported to Floyd Medical.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this investigation.

This is a single fatality crash currently these are the preliminary investigative findings and this crash is still under investigation.
