Man charged with drug trafficking

A Rome man was arrested Thursday on multiple charges including drug trafficking, theft by receiving stolen property, and cruelty to animals.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 36-year old Matthew Nathaniel Johnson was arrested after Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Shorter Avenue and found synthetic marijuana, THC edibles, four grams of heroin, and hydrocodone pills.

Johnson reportedly tried to flush some of the drugs down the toilet.

Three stolen firearms were also recovered.

The report states that there were dogs in the residence being kept in inadequate and unsanitary conditions.
