Floyd County Commission meets Tuesday

The Floyd County Board of Commissioners will consider a number of agenda items when they meet Tuesday night.

The commission will take up nine items from the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission including a special use permit for mini-warehouses on Shorter Avenue as well as applications for heavy industrial zonings on Huffaker Road, Calhoun Highway, and Elliot Drive.

The commission is also expected to recognize Deputy Jeremy Clay with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and April Rogers for their actions that led to the arrest of two people charged with aggravated animal cruelty after a dog was thrown into a dumpster.

Captain Mark Blanton with the sheriff’s office, who is retiring, will also be recognized for his 43 years of public safety service.

During the caucus, the commission will get an update on the Floyd County Prison.

The caucus will begin at 4:00 pm with the regular meeting to follow at 6 on the second floor of the county administration building.

The meetings are open to the public.

Everyone in attendance is asked to follow the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by masking and following social distancing guidelines.
