No more bagged household garbage at Walker Mountain Landfill

STAFF REPORTS

The Walker Mountain Landfill would like the public to know that the Joint Solid Waste Commission has decided that due to heavy traffic and public safety concerns, the Walker Mountain Landfill will no longer accept any bagged household garbage, effective June 1.

Floyd County residents will need to utilize remote sites to dispose of bagged household garbage.

There are six remote trash collection sites around Floyd County.

Each remote site has an attendant on duty.

Also starting Tuesday, adjusted rates at the Walker Mountain Landfill go into effect.

The new pricing structure simplifies garbage disposal fees used in the scale system for customers who have less than a ton and will round to the nearest dollar from the previous rates.

As an example, the current fee for garbage and industrial waste between 0 pounds to 100 pounds is $5.10. That fee would be rounded to $5.00.

Changing fees to a specific dollar figure will minimize the need for making change, shortening the transaction time and the amount of time customers wait in line.
