Rome City Commission meets Monday

The Rome City Commission is set to vote on an alcohol ordinance amendment pertaining to the hours of package sales on Sundays when they meet Monday night.

The amendment would allow packages sales of beer, wine, and liquor starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays instead of the current time of 12:30 p.m.

Restaurants can already sell alcohol by the drinks at 11 a.m. on Sundays thanks to the “brunch bill” approved by voters.

Also Monday night; the commission will discuss a recommendation from the joint development oversight committee regarding a rewrite of the Unified Land Development Code.

Staff is recommending that the firm of TPUDC be awarded a contract in the amount of $200,000 to assist in the process.

Other agenda items include the approval of a right-of-way deed with the Georgia Department of Transportation for a bridge replacement project at Big Dry Creek along with an update of disposal charges at the Walker Mountain Landfill.

Proclamations for Fair Housing Month, Rome Symphony Orchestra Day, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month are also on the agenda for the meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m.
