City commission to hear West 3rd Street proposal Monday

March 7, 2021–2:16 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

Rome City Commissioners will hear more about a proposal for a new development in the River District when they meet Monday.

During the city commission caucus, which begins at 5 p.m., representatives from Four Stones Real Estate will give a presentation outlining their plans for the city-owned property adjacent to the Courtyard by Marriott on West 3rd Street.

The proposal was recently presented to the redevelopment committee by Rome City Manager Sammy Rich.

“Their particular proposal is an innovative event plaza, and food hall with an artisan retail space,” he said.  “One of the most exciting things about their proposal, in my view, is when you go back to prior master plans, since the early 2000s, we have had this vision of growth from Broad Street over to the front door of Floyd Medical Center.  They [Four Stones] have really picked up on that notion of what we’re trying to do.”

During the regular meeting, which starts at 6:30, commissioners are expected to adopt an emergency order extending Rome’s mask mandate and approve a new employee health clinic Recommendation.

The Near-Site Clinic review committee is recommending staying with Redmond.

The City Commission meeting will be conducted via Zoom and Facebook Live.
