STAFF REPORTS

Work could begin in late spring or early summer on the Redmond Trail project.

Members of the Rome-Floyd Joint Services Committee got an update on Tuesday.

County Manager Jamie McCord said bids could go out as soon as March or April.

Rome City Manager Sammy Rich thanked the county for its commitment to the project.

“When we talk about Mt. Berry, you know you go behind the post office at Coligni Way,” he said.  “So, where we are disconnected, if I’m in downtown Rome and I’m on the levee trail, it basically stops.  This project that y’all are talking about letting in March get us over and reconnected with the Mt. Berry Trail.”

Rich added the Redmond Trail will be a major step forward in connecting all the local trails.

“Then from there, we’ve got Mt. Berry in place until you get up to Big Dry Creek where it currently terminates,” Rich added.  “That’s the other piece that we’ve got to get across.  That’s another bridge to get us across.  Then we will be connected to the Armuchee Connector and then we will truly have the big loop.”

The Redmond Trail has a price tag of $500,000 and will be funded by transportation enhancement funds through the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Construction is expected to take six months.
