On Wednesday morning 9-11 dispatch received a car accident report that a vehicle had possibly flipped multiple times into a ditch on Hwy 53 (in the area of 8200 Calhoun Hwy and Autry Rd NE).

Upon arrival at the scene Floyd EMS, The Rome/Floyd Fire Department, and the Floyd County Police Department found the vehicle in a ditch with a female passenger inside (but no driver). The female passenger had suffered a minor laceration to the head.

It was determined by police that the driver of the vehicle, Identified as Kenneth Dupree, had fled the scene on foot after the wreck occurred (Possibly due to having an active parole warrant). Floyd County Police partnered with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office to set up a perimeter in the area to search for the suspect.

According to FCPD, Dupree was found later walking near GA 140, and then was arrested by the FCPD.

The FCPD later posted the following statement on the event:

“A fugitive who fled from a wreck on Ga 53 has been arrested by FCPD. Kenneth Dupree was arrested on his parole warrant as he walked near Ga 140. He fled from a crash around 11 a.m. this morning, leaving behind a female occupant.”
