NEWS RELEASE

The Rome Police Department is pleased to share with the community that after 34 years of service Lieutenant Richard Burkhalter will be retiring at the end of this year. Lieutenant Burkhalter served the community in many different capacities as a police officer.

Lieutenant Burkhalter started his career with the Rome Police Department in 1986 where he served as a patrol officer. He served on the DUI Task Force, Criminal Investigations as well as Evidence and Crime Scene Processing. He rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Burkhalter was very instrumental in developing the police department’s use of technology including video cameras and computers for the patrol vehicles. His assignment as Computer Operations Administrator for the last 20 years has proven to keep the department up to date with modern technology.

We are proud of all that Lieutenant Burkhalter has accomplished while he served with us and wish him only the best in his next chapter. We will for certain miss his dedication and loyalty not only to the department but to the citizens he served.
