FLOYD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

A staff member at the Floyd County Jail tests positive for COVID-19.

According to a statement from Floyd County Sheriff’s office, the staff member was completely asymptomatic and was sent home immediately upon notification.

Sheriff Tim Burkhalter said the jail is following policies and procedures to include but not limited to: observation of staff and inmates that were exposed to the employee, decontamination of all areas that the employee came into contact with, and they are following county policy before the employee will be allowed to return to work.

He added that staff acted quickly upon notification and every precaution has been taken.

Certain jail operations were temporarily suspended throughout the evening Wednesday as they decontaminated each necessary area.

Normal operations are expected to resume today under the Code Yellow Phase of the COVID19 Preparedness Plan.
