DOT unveils bridge replacement proposal for SR 293 in Emerson

The Georgia Department of Transportation is proposing a project that would replace the existing north and southbound bridges on Joe Frank Harris Parkway over State Route 293 and the CSX railroad in Emerson.

Those bridges were built in 1951 and have been identified for replacement. Replacement is required to bring the bridges up to current design standards and to raise State Route 293 for improved railroad clearance. There is no cost-effective way to remedy these issues without a total replacement.

The existing Joe Frank Harris Parkway southbound exit loop ramp to State Route 293 would be permanently removed as part of the proposed design. The existing southbound Joe Frank Harris Parkway entrance ramp from State Route 293 would also be completely removed and then reconstructed on a new alignment to meet current design standards.

We will have more information throughout our local newscasts on Monday. You can still review the plans and provide your comments or suggestions to Georgia DOT by March 12th HERE or by calling 404-985-7058.
