Man charged in June fatal wreck

A 32-year old Rome man is facing several charges related to a wreck on June 22 that killed a woman and claimed the life of an unborn child.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Jeffrey Lane Farmer Jr. of a Darlington Way address is charged with 2nd-degree feticide by vehicle, 2nd-degree homicide by vehicle, operating an unsafe vehicle, too fast for conditions and a seat belt violation in connection with the wreck that occurred on Shorter Avenue at Old Airport Road.

The warrants state that the brake master cylinder on Farmer’s vehicle had failed prior to the crash and that vehicle was unsafe and should not have been on the roadway.

30-year old Whitney Swoops was killed in the three-vehicle wreck.  A child in her vehicle was injured and the driver of a third vehicle involved was also injured.

All of the charges against Farmer are misdemeanors.
