Man charged with battery on a police officer

A 50-year-old Rome man is facing charges of battery on a police officer and terroristic threats and acts following his arrest Friday evening.

According to Floyd County Jail records, an off duty officer saw  James William Hendrix of a Cantrell Road address operating a vehicle with canceled registration and driving in a reckless manner by failing to maintain a lane, almost striking another vehicle.

Hendrix then allegedly struck the officer in the head with an object and bit him, causing lacerations to the arm and hand.

The report states that there was a loaded firearm in the vehicle and Hendrix told the officer that if he could have got to the gun he would have shot him.

Hendrix was also charged with DUI; reckless conduct; failure to maintain a lane; felony obstruction; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; and driving a vehicle with canceled, suspended or revoked registration.
