NEWS RELEASE

At their July 23, 2019 meeting, the Floyd County Board of Commissioners voted to transfer August 2019 parking fines from Floyd County to the Floyd County Schools Child in Need Fund. The vote passed unanimously. The fines will be generated by those who receive parking tickets in the lots that are managed by Floyd County. This includes the historic courthouse/judicial center parking lot, non-street parking at the County Administration Building, and the fifteen-minute parking spaces at the Town Green.

The Floyd County Schools Child in Need Fund allows the school system to help families in need in a variety of ways. The fund allows for the following: school supplies, eye exams, and glasses, dental visits, cap and gowns for graduation, as well as other items and services.

“The Commission is happy to have this opportunity to support and help children in need throughout Floyd County in the month of August. Parking fines average $3,000.00-4,000.00 each month for Floyd County. The citizens of this community have a reputation for helping each other when in need. We hope this action encourages others to perform a simple act of kindness to help others in Floyd County,” said Floyd County Commission Chair Scotty Hancock.
