Mother of Ella Camp headed to prison
August 7, 2017--4:52 p.m.
The mother of a three-year-old girl who was murdered in September of 2013 has been sentenced to 10-years, four to serve on a charge of 2nd-degree cruelty to children.
Authorities said Kayla Leann Medckie placed her daughter, Ella Camp, in a car with David Zachary Gresham after the child had accused Gresham of inappropriately touching her.
Ella was brutally assaulted on September 17 of 2013.
She later died at Scottish Rite Hospital from blunt impact trauma to the head and torso.
Surveillance video at a local gas station captured Gresham beating the child as Medckie had gone into the store.
On June 13 of last year, Gresham pleaded guilty to murdering Ella and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
Medckie entered an “Alford Plea,” in April which is a guilty plea but the defendant does not admit to the criminal act and asserts innocence.
The sentence was handed down Monday by Floyd Superior Court Judge Billy Sparks.
