A tractor-trailer driver escaped injury after his truck left the roadway on Highway 53 Thursday morning.

According to Officer Chad Matthews with the Floyd County Police Department, the driver said he was traveling southbound near Dempsey Road when a tire blew.

The tractor-trailer crossed the median and the northbound lanes, crashed into the guardrail and went down an embankment.
The collision with the guard rail punctured the underside of the tractor, resulting in a trail of oil being left behind.

The truck is from Gainesville, Georgia.

One northbound lane of Highway 53 was closed for a short time following the wreck that occurred just after 11 a.m.
