Double-wide on Alabama Highway lost to fire Thursday

January 11, 2018--12:00 p.m.

Staff reports

Rome firefighters responded to a structure fire at 6300 Alabama Highway Thursday morning.

According to Battalion Chief Danny Lee, the call came in just after 10 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to visible smoke and flames coming from the double-wide mobile home, which is up on a hill just past Highway 100 South.

They had difficulty getting to the structure because a log had been placed across the driveway to keep out vandals.

It is believed the trailer was vacant and it is listed as a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
