A high-speed pursuit in Floyd County ended safely in Cedar Bluff, Alabama Wednesday evening.
According to PFC Chad Matthews with the Floyd County Police, he was running radar on Highway 20 West near the Alabama state line when he clocked a black Dodge Charger at 82 mph in 55 zone.
Matthews attempted to make a routine traffic stop. The driver, 19-year-old Chase Riley Keener, refused to pull over and the chase was on from there.
Keener nearly collided with a log truck during the chase and that was just one of the many near misses.
Matthews said that during the chase his vehicle hit a top speed of 102 mph and as soon as they crossed the state line he lost sight of the subject.
About five minutes later Officer Matthews received a call saying that Cedar Bluff Police had stopped the suspect at the intersection of Highway 68 East and County Road 75 without incident.
Keener is not in custody at this time because Floyd County officers lost sight of him and he was pulled over by Cedar Bluff PD, but will have warrants filed against him.
He is being charged with speeding, reckless driving, unlawful transfer of a license plate, no insurance and a felony fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officers.
Matthews said, “My intentions were to pull him over and issue him a citation that would not allow any points on his license. But, because of the way that it unfolded he is now looking at a felony of attempting to elude.”
