Four Georgia cities including Rome and Cartersville are suing AirBNB, claiming the short-stay rental giant has failed to collect and remit taxes owed to the municipalities.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the complaint was filed on January 31 in U.S. District Court in Rome.

The governments assert that AirBNB is violating state and local laws by not collecting and remitting occupancy taxes.

They are seeking a court order forcing AirBNB to collect the taxes.

The governments are asking the court to certify the lawsuit as a class action, meaning that if approved by the court it would represent a state-wide class of all Georgia cities, counties, and governments who have enacted Occupancy Taxes on lodging.
