STAFF REPORTS

Two men were jailed and one scaly, slithery passenger was taken in by animal control officers following a wreck in the 5700 block of Rockmart Highway Tuesday afternoon.

The wreck occurred around 4:30 when a Ford Explorer rear-ended another vehicle that was trying to turn into the Silver Creek Church of God.

A second wreck occurred involving two other vehicles.

In all, seven people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

However, the strangest part of the story was what police found when they went to check on the driver of the Explorer.

He had a 3-foot python wrapped around his hand.

The driver, 52-year old Marion Scott Dooley of Hiram is charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving under the influence of drugs, too fast for conditions and following too closely.

67-year old Kenneth Edwin Pointer, also of Hiram, was charged with possession of Percocet and possession of drug-related objects.

The python, which was not injured in the wreck, is being kept at the Rome Eco Center awaiting pickup by family members of the owner.
