An 8-year old child was airlifted to Egleston Children’s Hospital with serious injuries following a single-vehicle wreck in Cartersville Wednesday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of a 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited said he fell asleep at the wheel.

He lost control and crossed the centerline on Burnt Hickory Road before leaving the left side of the roadway and striking a ditch.

The vehicle vaulted from a culvert in the ditch and began overturning, striking a tree before coming to a final rest.

In addition to the boy who was airlifted, the 20-year old driver and two young female passengers were transported to WellStar-Kennestone with non-life threatening injuries.
