[WATCH] City using goats to clear vegetation along trails

September 11, 2019–11:58 a.m.

STAFF REPORTS

It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it.

Over the next week or so, 10 goats hired by the City of Rome will be working to clear the vegetation along the multi-purpose trail behind State Mutual Stadium to give everyone a better view of the Oostanaula River.

The labor is cheap, $8 a day per goat.

The goats come from Glitzy Goats in Acworth, and Jenkins said that Rome is one of the first communities to contract for their services.

Needless to say, the goats love their job.

The goats have already had some curious visitors but be warned, they are surrounded by an electric fence to protect them from predators.

The area behind the stadium is a test spot.  If it’s a success, they may be used to clear areas off Kingfisher Trail in South Rome.
