Early morning storm results in power outages

Georgia Power continues their work in getting the electricity up and running following a brief but severe storm that rolled through the area early Thursday morning.

As of 3 P.M, there were 7 outages in Rome and Floyd County affecting 144 Georgia Power customers.

11 A.M. Update

The largest is in the Doyle Road-Pullen Road-Drummond Road area in Silver Creek.

There are also still outages between East 7th Street and East 12th Street in East Rome.

Another outage is reported in the Dellinger Road area in Shannon, affecting 27 customers.

There are a number of smaller, scattered outages affecting less than five customers each in Floyd County.

Residents on Alfred Avenue are still without power after a large tree took down power lines at the intersection with Pecan Street.

The tree also blocked access to some homes.

Remember, do not approach any downed power lines you see, they could be energized.

Also, if you approach a traffic signal that is out or is flashing, treat it as a four-way stop.

9 a.m. update:

A brief but strong storm that rolled through the area has left 1,535 Georgia Power customers without electricity in our area.

That’s down from over 2,000 earlier in the morning.

In Floyd County, a large tree has fallen at Pecan Street and Alfred Avenue (pictured) and is blocking the intersection and access to some homes.  It also brought down a power line knocking out power to around 82 Georgia Power customers in the area.

Another power line is down on East 10th Street and the road is blocked at Notasulga Drive.

201 are without power in the Hampton East subdivision off Chulio Road.

Another 94 in the Mt. Alto Road area.

29 off of Alabama Highway on Kenora and Albion Drive.

13 on Cantrell Road, 29 on W. 1st Street and W. 2nd Street in Lindale, and 33 on Cave Spring Road between Primrose and Walker Mountain Road.

635 Georgia Power customers are without power in Cedartown in the College Street, Cave Spring Road, Cherokee Road, and John Hand Road area.

In Floyd County, power lines are down in Rosemont Park, resulting in an outage along Alfred Avenue.

635 are affected by a power outage in Silver Creek, including Reeceburg Road, Doyle Road, Pullen Road, Burkhalter Road, Lake Creek Road and Jake Whorton Road.

201 are without power in the Hampton East subdivision off Chulio Road.

115 in Sproull Road, Reynolds Bend and Shoals Ferry areas off Kingston Highway.

Another 94 in the Mt. Alto Road area.

29 off of Alabama Highway on Kenora and Albion Drive.

44 McGhee Bend Road off Foster’s Mill Road and 13 on Cantrell Road.

801 Georgia Power customers are without power in Cedartown in the College Street, Cave Spring Road, Cherokee Road and John Hand Road area.

47 are without power in Adairsville and another 19 in Cartersville.
