Calhoun Police respond to shots fired call Saturday night

Calhoun police responded to a shots fired call Saturday night.

According to the police report, two females were engaged in a verbal altercation when a 3rd party fired his firearm into the sky to end the fight.

Celvin Orozco Merdia of Venezuela reportedly used a .38 Caliber handgun to scare the women and end the fighting.

Calhoun police secured the scene and took Merdia into custody where he admitted to firing the gun to “scare everybody away”. He also admitted he purchased the gun on the black market due to the fact he is an illegal immigrant.

Merdia is charged with terroristic threats and acts, reckless conduct, disorderly conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, discharge of a firearm while intoxicated, and four counts of 2nd-degree cruelty to children
